Your first impressions of this book may be something like 'woaah, what an enigmatic and unique title!' and may I just say that in this case, judge the book by it's cover. What is contained within that glorious gold and violet cover is a story full of mysteries and romance and cults and glam and money and Beverly Hills and... Well, you get it, I bet.
Johnny Silver was a 'home-schooled' regular kid who loved music. Since he put some songs up on The Angel's Practice (TAP), the story's version of Facebook or Bebo, Johnny catapulted to stardom, along with Taj, one of our main characters, who has remained down-to-earth and in love with Johnny.
One night, during one of the biggest shows of his entire career, Johnny gets up on stage and vanishes. Everyone panics and no-one knows what to do. Johnny Silver is missing!
Coincidentally, a lot of other L.A. kids have vanished too. Nobody has any idea what's up, but when Taj and Nick are thrown together, they become a team determined to find out.
They discover that the famous TAP isn't as harmless as it looks, and is actually a cult.
Nothing goes smoothly though, and Nick and Taj find themselves trying to stay alive whilst discovering what TAP really is.
I thought this was a very good mystery novel, and different from Melissa de la Cruz's other books. The TAP pages at the start of every other chapter was a nice touch, even though it was hard to 'get' what each thing meant.
Overall, it was a great book; glam + darkness = awesome. It only gets 4* because it didn't really hold my attention throughout, and the cliffhanger at the end is just screaming for a sequel, which I don't think there's gonna be, as Melissa is probably busy with another instalment to The Ashleys series. I think it would be quite interesting if there was another book that tied up all loose ends, but I'm not fretting about what happened next, tbh.
A must-read for major mystery fans, as I think you'll find it worth your time. Not that no-one else will like it!
